We have had up to 40 cm of new snow in the last 4 days, great ski conditions right now but treat steep slopes with caution as new storm slabs may be human triggerable.

Confidence

Moderate

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches observed but limited visibility.

Snowpack Summary

Up to 30 cm of new snow since March 13th, this sit on settled snow above a robust melt freeze crust. This crust exists everywhere except for northerly aspects above 1800 m. The January drought layer lies 60 –130 cm deep, with snow depths at treeline averaging 130–200 cm.

Weather Summary

Snow tapering off on Sunday and a clearing trend to start the week. See the table below for a more detailed forecast.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Keep your guard up as storm slabs may remain sensitive to human triggering.
  • Avoid thin areas like rocky outcrops where you're most likely to trigger avalanches on deep weak layers.

Avalanche Problems

Storm Slabs

Storm slabs may be reactive to skier triggering on steep open slopes.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Persistent Slabs

This problem remains a concern on high northerly aspects where the surface crust is thin or non-existent.

Aspects: North, North East, North West.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Unlikely

Expected Size: 1.5 - 3
