Avalanche Problems

Persistent Slabs

This layer can be found at tree line and in the alpine but spotty in its distribution. It will be most reactive in areas where wind loading has occurred on lee aspects and on steep solar aspects where the surface hoar sits on a crust.
Avoid thin, rocky or unsupported slopes.Watch for shooting cracks or stiffer feeling snow. Avoid areas that appear wind loaded.
