Regions: Little Yoho.

The danger in decreasing in the Little Yoho area. Watch for fresh wind slabs near ridge crests which may be sitting on facets. Skiing at treeline and below will be "non-optimal" until it snows. SH

Weather Forecast

Temperatures will start to warm up Sunday with a slight inversion forming (alpine temperatures staying below freezing.)  Winds will remain light from the N with a mix of sun and cloud. No snow in the forecast.

Snowpack Summary

A generally deeper and well settled snowpack exists in the Little Yoho region compared to East of the divide. There are areas with basal facets in shallow snowpack areas but we have seen little activity on this layer. Below 2000m, breakable melt-freeze crust transitions to bullet proof melt-freeze crust making for rugged skiing.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches were reported today in Little Yoho.

Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Recent winds from many directions (North on Saturday) have formed wind slabs that are susceptible to human triggering. Recent cornice growth is also a concern as these may trigger any deep weak layers that are present in the snowpack.

  • Extra caution needed around cornices with current conditions.
  • Use caution in lee areas. Recent wind loading have created wind slabs.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Possible
