Avalanche Activity

Slab avalanches are the main danger. Below approximately 2000 m small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible.

Areas where the snow cover is rather shallow where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are especially unfavourable. Avalanches can be released, in particular by large loads. In gullies and bowls and in extremely steep terrain individual small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist slab avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

By late in the night mostly small wind slabs formed in particular in gullies and bowls. Some fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs are lying on soft layers below approximately 2000 m. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust only at high altitudes.
