Central Cascades
Avalanche danger
Highlights
Avalanche activity will be unlikely on Thursday but not out of the question. Snow is a dynamic medium and some isolated terrain features may harbor pockets of unstable snow. Use safe travel practices and evaluate snow conditions before traveling on steep and consequential terrain.
Avalanche Discussion
While touring near and above treeline on Wednesay I did not observe any signs of unstable snow and there were no evident avalanche problems. The surface snow on south aspects softened up enough in the sun to make for smooth riding but not nearly enough to bring on any wet avalanches. Right now, the weakest snow is at or near the top of the snowpack, which is a good thing. We have not located any weak layers deeper in the pack.
The snow coverage is good for this time of year, but there are still plenty of early season obstacles. I have been finding around 5 to 6 feet of snowpack in the near treeline elevation band.
