Happy New Year fellow winter enthusiasts! The avalanche danger remains generally LOW. Human triggered avalanches are unlikely at this time.
Snow and Weather
Current Conditions: Sunday was another typical day for the 2023-24 winter season. Sunny skies, high temperatures into the mid to upper 30s, and light southwest wind. Backcountry travelers reported an abundance of loose sugary snow. Overnight lows were in the mid 20s along the higher terrain and mid teens in the canyon bottoms.
Mountain Weather: We'll see scattered clouds and high temperatures in the low 30s with light to moderate ridgetop wind speeds from the south. The next few days look similar. A storm system for around the 7th is still advertising a decent shot of snow for our area but weather models now have the storm closing off forming a "closed low pressure system". This is not surprising given the weather pattern we've been in. This is also not a desirable outcome. I fear that this system will continue to morph and end up missing us and/or weakening.
