Highlights
At the higher elevations, cloud cover and cooler daytime temperatures should keep the threat of wet loose slides at bay. Up there, skiers and riders might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of shallow wind slab in very steep, mostly shaded terrain. This hazard is likely to be more pronounced above 10,500 feet, and wind loaded slopes should be avoided if the consequences of being caught in a small slide could result in being swept down long couloirs, over cliff bands or into terrain traps. While crusts did not experience a hard freeze overnight in the valleys, repeated melt-freeze cycles have created a lower elevation snowpack that is resistant to wet slides. As the day progresses, take note of snowfall rates and monitor the potential development for new slabs.

Expect a final burst of precipitation this evening as a cold front associated with the aforementioned upper level disturbance moves through the region. The mountains in the northern portion of the forecast area should receive an additional two to four inches of new snow while only an inch or two is expected in the Southwest Trails area. Skies will be on a clearing trend after midnight and mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies should persist into the afternoon if not throughout the entire day. Overnight lows in the mountains will drop into the low teens before rising into the low 20s in the afternoon. Valley temperatures will fall into the low 20s by the early morning hours before climbing to near 40 during the day.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW on Monday. With substantially colder temperatures and partially clearing skies overnight, strong crusts should develop by sunrise, and avalanche activity will be unlikely below these crusts. As the day warms, shallow wet loose slides involving the new snow will be likely on steep, sunlit aspects. In high elevation terrain that is mostly to fully shaded from the sun, skiers and riders might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of shallow wind slab in very steep, wind-loaded terrain. Up there, loose snow sluffs will also be possible.
