Regions

Chic-Choc Mountains, Chic-Chocs.

Over the next few days, caution is advised when traveling in the mountains. A melt-freeze crust is present at the surface and breaks under the weight of skiers, which could lead to falls and injuries during descents.

Confidence

High

  • We have a good understanding of the snowpack structure and confidence in the weather forecast.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches have been observed or reported.

If you head into the backcountry, thanks for sharing your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN).

Snowpack Summary

A widespread melt-freeze crust that is friable and does not support the weight of a skier is present throughout the mountains. Beneath this crust, the snowpack is well consolidated. The snowpack is dry overall, except for the base, which is moist.

At mid-elevation, the average snowpack depth is about 120 cm.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Although avalanches are unlikely when a hard crust exists on the snow surface, the crust may pose a slip and fall hazard.
