Avalanche Activity

The more recent wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from westerly directions, large wind slabs will form in all aspects. The avalanche danger will increase during the day. As the snowfall becomes more intense dry avalanches are possible, even large ones in isolated cases. Even single persons can release avalanches easily, including medium-sized ones. Such avalanche prone locations are to be found in all aspects above approximately 2000 m. In areas bordering France, especially at high altitudes, avalanches can be large. In these regions the danger of dry avalanches will increase to level 4 (high) in the afternoon. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for caution and restraint.

Snowpack Structure

30 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Monday above approximately 2000 m. 10 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell on Saturday. Sunday: The sometimes strong wind has transported some snow. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a little snow is lying. At low and intermediate altitudes less snow than usual is lying.

Tendency

In particular on the Main Alpine Ridge west of Val Ferret, along the border with France new snow. The cold fresh snow as well as the wind slabs represent the main danger.
