    As this storm blows through, the initial snow will be at upper elevations, lee to the Northwest wind. Then with the Southwest wind change, expect these wind slabs to form on Northeastern aspects. If we receive more than 10-15cm of new snow this will increase the likely hood and size of the hazard. Watch for dense pockets of wind blown snow if in terrain above 30degrees.

    Rain on snow often means Loose Wet slides may occur in isolated, steep solar slopes at lower elevations where enough snow exists.

Current Snowpack Conditions

Coverage is patchy with significant pockets of wind deposited snow all the way through to very thin patches. Around 25mm of rain fell on the range on the 15/07. Expect a very frozen surface after overnight frosts.

Mountain Weather

Friday: Scattered showers with snow possible to 1000m. Northwest winds easing throughout the day turning Southwest at night. Freezing level 1900m lowering to 1300m in the evening.

Saturday: A few showers, with snow to 800m, clearing to fine in the morning. Southwest winds dying out in the afternoon. Freezing level 1200m.

Sliding Danger

Ice axe and Crampons will be essential if venturing out. Even ski-crampons may not be enough in some areas.
