Avalanche Activity

In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.

In all aspects as well as in all altitude zones less snow than usual is lying. The conditions are unfavourable for ski touring. The wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and at high altitudes. These can especially at their margins be released, even by a single winter sport participant. These places are covered with new snow and are therefore difficult to recognise. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information.

Snowpack Structure

Up to 5 cm of snow fell on Tuesday above approximately 800 m. In some localities 10 cm of snow, but less in some localities, will fall above approximately 2000 m. The new snow of Saturday will be deposited on surface hoar in all aspects above approximately 2200 m. Below approximately 2500 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying. In particular in gullies and bowls snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on rocky shady slopes. In the northeast and in the south in all altitude zones from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Hardly any increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the precipitation.
