Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche in surface layers large enough to bury you. It is easiest to trigger deeper, more dangerous avalanches where the snow cover thins, such as convexities, gully edges, or rocky spots. The chances of triggering a large and dangerous avalanche are decreasing, but the consequences remain serious. You can always avoid avalanches by sticking to slopes less than about thirty degrees without steep terrain above.
