Highlights

As the day progresses warming temperatures will soften snow surfaces and increase the avalanche hazard. Wet slides are possible on steep slopes after significant warming has occurred. Avalanche terrain should be avoided during the warmest portion of the day.

Dangerous slab avalanches are possible in steep avalanche paths during the heat of the day. These slabs could fail on buried layers of faceted snow and could be triggered by snowmachines or skiers.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A moist and unstable westerly flow will continue to bring snow showers to the mountains overnight. These showers are anticipated to decrease in the early morning hours and diminish during the day as skies slowly clear. Temperatures will drop into the mid 20s in the mountains and to near 30 degrees in the valleys by morning. Daytime highs will rise into the mid 30s at the upper elevations and into the upper 40s in the valleys. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the morning and increase to MODERATE in the afternoon. Wet slides are possible on very steep slopes after significant warming has occurred.
