Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes with wind-drifted snow. Slopes that face north through east to southeast are the most dangerous, especially just below ridgelines and cross-loaded gullies. Watch for shooting cracks, collapses or whumpfing in the snowpack. If you experience these then slopes sheltered from the wind or less than about 35 degrees are safer choices
