The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE at Upper elevations. 4 to 6 inches of new snow overnight came in with southerly ridgecrest winds creating slabs to a foot in depth on lee slopes near ridgecrests. The new snow rests on smooth crusts and may be easily triggered. The hazard is LOW at Mid and Lower elevations where less snow fell and temperatures are forecasted to remain cool, which should keep the snowpack firm. Be aware of any sun breaks that could rapidly warm the new snow and increase the chance of slides.

Cooler temperatures are expected on Thursday as overnight lows are expected to reach the single digits at the high elevations. Highs in the mid twenties in the mountains and low thirties in the valleys are expected Thursday afternoon. Skies will be mostly cloudy with periods of light snow possible through the day.The avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW throughout the forecast area as cold temperatures are expected to keep the snow surface hard and avalanche activity should be limited to shallow, small, isolated pockets of new snow.
