The overall avalanche danger is MODERATE today.

Watch for recent deposits of wind drifted snow. These may release if provoked by a person.

More dangerous conditions exist due to lingering concerns with a layer of loose sugary snow that formed mid winter.

There is still a chance that a person could trigger a large and deadly avalanche on northerly facing slopes steeper than 30˚ above about 10,000'.

    The most dangerous problem today is the chance for triggering a deep avalanche that breaks into weak snow that formed mid winter. Wind drifted new snow will increase the chances. This problem is found on very steep slopes above about 10,000' on more northerly facing slopes.

    Fresh drifts likely formed in various locations. These may be sensitive to a person today. Use small test slopes to see if the new snow is reactive to your skis or machine.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions

The Skyline picked up about 8 inches of new snow during an intense cold frontal passage. Southwest wind has been strong and remains moderate to strong. Temperatures dropped down to around 10˚F overnight.

Mountain Weather

We'll see clouds over the next few days with chances for snow later today and again on Wednesday with a few inches possible during each period. Temperatures will be in the teens today and slightly warmer tomorrow. Wind should slow a bit and be in the moderate speed range from the southwest.
