Generally stable avalanche conditions exist, and triggering an avalanche is unlikely. However, even a small avalanche can have major consequences. Always use safe travel practices, such as exposing only one person at a time to avalanche terrain.

Avalanche conditions are generally stable and not changing much from day to day. Remember that Low danger doesn't mean no danger. Small avalanches can still occur, and could have serious consequences in extreme terrain like couloirs or large exposed faces. Cold temperatures today will also exacerbate the consequences of any mishap. Don’t forget your extra layers.
Always be on the lookout for signs of instability, such as recent avalanches, cracking, and collapsing. Take the time to assess each slope you plan to ride. If you see any signs of instability or find obvious strong snow over weak snow, choose slopes less steep than 30 degrees. Ski and ride one at a time, and regroup out of avalanche terrain.
Gusty east winds impacted some parts of our region on Thursday night, and today, west winds are moderate at upper elevations. Despite the wind, it’s unlikely that there is much new wind slab development because of the limited snow available for transport. The wind can't create a slab without soft snow to entrain and deposit. That being said, keep an eye out for small new drifts at upper elevations.
You’ll notice that we’ve removed the persistent slab avalanche problem. While triggering a persistent slab avalanche is very unlikely, weak layers are still present in the snowpack. In isolated high-elevation terrain, you may find facets or faceted crusts buried 1-2 feet deep. Consider digging down and looking for these layers before committing to your line. Look out for a slab over weak snow, or snowpack tests that produce unstable results.
Glide cracks have opened up on isolated slopes throughout the region. Glide avalanches are highly unpredictable, and avoidance is the answer. If you see open glide cracks, do not travel underneath them.
A small weather disturbance could bring a surprise trace to an inch of new snow this afternoon into tonight. This is unlikely to change avalanche conditions, but it’s always nice to see some fresh flakes during prolonged high pressure.
Surface hoar exists on the snow surface in many places. If this layer survives to be buried, it could create a problem down the road. If you get out in the mountains, please let us know where you find surface hoar. This will help us with future forecasts.
