Avalanche Activity

New snow above approximately 2000 m: The current avalanche situation calls for caution and restraint.

30 cm of snow, and up to 60 cm in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 2200 m. As a consequence of new snow and a strong southeasterly wind, sometimes large wind slabs will form in the afternoon in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as above the tree line. In these altitude zones medium-sized and large natural avalanches are possible. They can also be released in the old snowpack. As the precipitation becomes more intense the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. The peak danger point will be reached in the afternoon probably. Backcountry touring and snowshoe hiking call for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack is moist. The old snowpack is unfavourably layered. This applies in particular on steep slopes in particular between approximately 2900 and 2300 m. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

In particular in the regions that are exposed to the foehn wind wind and new snow: The danger of dry and moist avalanches will increase but remain within the current danger level.
