Moist and wet avalanches are the main danger.
Moist and wet avalanches are the main danger.
Especially on very steep sunny slopes individual mostly small wet slab avalanches are possible above approximately 1900 m. The prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase from the late morning. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.
The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. The older wind slabs are to be found especially adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at high altitudes. The weather will be cold. The weather conditions will give rise to consolidation of the old snowpack. As a consequence of low temperatures a crust will form on the surface. The surface of the snowpack will freeze, but a strong crust will not form and will soften during the day. On very steep slopes and at high altitude the likelihood of wet avalanches will increase during the day.
