Forecast Snow Stability: New weak windslab is expected to become deeper and more widespread on steep North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. New weak cornice development anticipated over steepest lee slopes. The snowpack at lower altitudes and in most other locations is expected to become progressively better consolidated. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Moderate generally Westerly airflow overnight becoming strong before dawn. Significantly colder throughout. Frequent snow showers, occasionally heavy, throughout the period. Observed Weather Influences: Periods of snow showers throughout the period with winds from East through South to West quadrants at variable speeds but light for a time. Freezing level fluctuating near summits though cooler much later. ObservedSnowStability: Older, moist, rapidly consolidating windslab on North-East through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. New, soft, humid, reasonably bonded windslab present on steep West to North aspects above 950 metres. All snow at lower altitudes and on less steep ground is moist and well stabilised. Older, damp and weak cornices overhang many very steep North to East aspects. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
