Grand Mesa

Generally safe avalanche conditions exist across the Grand and Battlement Mesas. The few slopes where you may be able to trigger an avalanche are on wind-loaded terrain features directly below cornices and on the lee side of ridgelines. To reduce your chances of triggering an avalanche give cornices a wide berth and avoid steep slopes where the snow surface has a hard, hollow feeling and a rounded, wave-like surface appearance.
