Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger.

Little snow has fallen over a wide area. The strong wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. The wind slabs are rather small but in some cases prone to triggering. They are to be found adjacent to ridgelines in all aspects and generally in the high Alpine regions. The fresh wind slabs can over a wide area be released, even by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases.

Snowpack Structure

The weather will be cold over a wide area. As a consequence of low temperatures the snowpack will become faceted and therefore lose strength. The snowpack will become in some cases prone to triggering. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack.
