Highlights

Locally heavy rain is expected during the night to Saturday before temperatures drop throughout the day. In the lowlands, the snowpack is already saturated after several days of rain, but some wet avalanches may still occur.

As the snowline lowers during the day, some wind‑slab formation may occur in lee areas. In exposed terrain, small slab avalanches may be possible to trigger, but these will be small and very limited in extent.

Avalanche Activity

Locally heavy rain is expected during the night to Saturday before temperatures drop throughout the day. In the lowlands, the snowpack is already saturated after several days of rain, but some wet avalanches may still occur. As the snowline lowers during the day, some wind‑slab formation may occur in lee areas. In exposed terrain, small slab avalanches may be possible to trigger, but these will be small and very limited in extent.

Tendency

Avalanche danger depends on where the snow showers hit. In areas that receive the most new snow combined with wind, fresh wind slabs may be easy to trigger. The danger is highest while the slabs are still fresh. In areas with little new snow, the avalanche danger will be lower.

If the sun breaks through during the day, it may weaken the fresh snow and cause a few small, naturally released wet avalanches in steep terrain. These are expected to be few and limited in size.
