Avalanche Forecast

No new avalanches have been reported however observations are very limited. Small wet loose sluffing is likely to occur from steep south facing slopes, especially near rock outcrops, otherwise avalanche activity is considered unlikely.

A surface crust can be found on south facing terrain at all elevations in the morning. With mild temperatures expected over the day and mostly clear skies, the crust may begin to break down but wet avalanches are considered unlikely. On north facing slopes, dry snow can still be found at higher elevations.

Below treeline terrain has low snow cover. Travel conditions are challenging with exposed rocks, stumps, and open creeks.

Friday Night

Clear skies. 10-20 km/h southeast ridgetop wind. Freezing levels drop to 1500 m.

Saturday

Sun to start with increasing afternoon cloud and possible flurries. 20-35 km/h southeast ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature +6 °C. Freezing level 2100 m.

Sunday

Up to 20 cm of snow is possible by morning, with another 5-10 cm over the day. 40-50 km/h west ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -4 °C. Freezing level 1200 m.

Monday

Mostly clear skies with 10-20 km/h northwest winds. Freezing levels around 1500 m.

• Pay attention to cornices and give them a wide berth when traveling on or below ridges.
• Use caution above cliffs and terrain traps where even small avalanches may have severe consequences.
• When a thick, melt-freeze surface crust is present, avalanche activity is unlikely.
