Tonight: Wet snow mixed with rain in the townsite. 10-15 cm snowfall at Cameron Lake. Alpine high of +4 with freezing level at 1800m. Moderate SW wind with extreme gusts up to 120km/h

Mon: Mainly cloudy with scattered flurries. 2-5cm of snow with freezing level at valley bottom. Moderate SW wind with strong gusts

Snowpack Summary

10-20cm of new snow is expected on Sun PM with strong- extreme SW wind. This will create fresh wind slabs over a variety of old surfaces including a thick crust that exists to ridgetop (except on high N aspects) or old wind slab on N-E alpine slopes. Mid snowpack is well consolidated with the lower half composed of dense facets & decomposing crusts

Wind Slabs

Wind Slab avalanches are the release of a cohesive layer of snow (a slab) formed by the wind. Wind typically transports snow from the upwind sides of terrain features and deposits snow on the downwind side. Wind slabs are often smooth and rounded and sometimes sound hollow, and can range from soft to hard. Wind slabs that form over a persistent weak layer (surface hoar, depth hoar, or near-surface facets) may be termed Persistent Slabs or may develop into Persistent Slabs.
