Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh deposits of unstable windslab will form in wind sheltered areas, mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 850 metres. New fragile cornices will build above these aspects. The old snowpack will continue to consolidate in the fluctuating temperatures. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be moderate, increasing strong during the day, South-West or Westerly. Initially this evening the freezing level will be around the higher summits before dropping to around 700 metres by midnight. Precipitation is expected throughout the period, heaviest during the day and falling as snow above around 600 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight the freezing level rose to around the summits; during the day it was around 700 metres. After a dry morning there were some light showers during the later afternoon, falling as snow above about 500 metres. Winds were light, mainly South-Easterly during the day. ObservedSnowStability: The fluctuating freezing level has led to a crust forming on the snowpack on all aspects and at most levels. This has consolidated the recently deposited windslab, found mainly on North-West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. New deposits of snow did not gain significant depth. The avalanche hazard is Low.
