Forecast Snow Stability: Poorly bonded windslab will be present in wind sheltered locations on North-West to North-East aspects above 850 metres. Moderately bonded deposits on West and East aspects. Fragile cornices will be present above these aspects. Elsewhere the snow will be shallow and insignificant. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snowfall during the evening above 600 metres, followed by light snow showers overnight and during the day above 700, then 800 metres. Moderate Easterly winds overnight, backing and easing to become light North-Westerly. 700 metre freezing level overnight, rising to 1100 metres by mid-afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Snowfall overnight above 800 metres followed by snow showers through the morning above 600 metres. Winds were strong at summit level from a general Southerly direction with persistent drifting. Freezing level around 850 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Localised accumulations of unstable windslab have rapidly formed in wind sheltered locations only on mainly North-West to North-East aspects above 850 metres with cross-loading on West and East aspects. Distribution is limited but the accumulations are locally significant and poorly bonded. Fragile cornices have formed above these aspects. Elsewhere the new snow is shallow and insignificant. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
