New snow and wind slabs are to be critically assessed.
The new snow of the last two days is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. The fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in high Alpine regions. Some small to medium-sized dry avalanches are possible as a consequence of the moderate northerly wind.
Snowpack Structure
In some regions up to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Thursday above approximately 1700 m. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. In particular below the tree line from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. The sleet gave rise on Friday to increasing moistening of the snowpack in some cases below approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of sharply falling temperatures and the moderate northerly wind, the snowpack will consolidate at the weekend.
