Avalanches are unlikely but a hard crust can make for difficult travel and increase the consequences of slips or tumbles on steep terrain.
Friday night: Increasing cloud. Light northwest winds. Treeline high temperatures around -3.
Saturday: Flurries up to 5 cm. Moderate southwest to northwest wind. Treeline high temperatures around -5.
Sunday: A mix of sun and cloud. Light northwest wind. Treeline high temperatures around -6.
Monday: Trace overnight then a mix of sun and cloud. Light northwest wind. Treeline high temperatures around -4.
Recent heavy rain followed by a solid refreeze has effectively eliminated avalanche concerns in the region.
A dusting of new snow may exist in the alpine, however recent heavy rain followed by subzero temperatures has formed strong surface crusts at all elevations. This has effectively locked the snowpack in place underneath any skiff of dry snow that may exist in the alpine.
Treeline snow depths in advance of the storm were around 80-100 cm but rain has eroded some of this. Much of treeline and almost all below treeline elevations are still below threshold depths for avalanches.
