Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The widespread unstable windslab present mainly above 900m on mostly South-Westerly to Northerly aspects will become increasingly unstable as it thaws. Gullies, Coire headwalls, crag aprons especially affected. Large cornices overhanging these aspects will be prone to collapse triggering slopes below. At lower elevations and above 500m, isolated windslab deposits in steep wind sheltered places such as steep banks and burn lines will be unstable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable

Forecast Weather Influences: Freezing level will be around 1200m throughout the period. Precipitation will be persistent sleet and snow at summit levels rain below. Winds remaining South-Easterly strong to gale force on the tops. Observed Weather Influences: Winds strong South-Easterly at first, gradually lessened in the day. Drifting at higher elevations. Freezing level gradually rising to 900m or so as the day progressed. Light precipitation throughout the day. ObservedSnowStability: Deep and widespread unstable windslab is present mostly above 900 metres on Westerly to Northerly aspects, with cross loaded deposits affecting South-West and North-East aspects. Gullies, Coire headwalls, crag aprons especially affected. Large fragile cornices overhang these slopes. Above 500m localised moderately bonded windslab deposits are present in isolated steep wind sheltered places such as steep banks and burn lines. Elsewhere wind scoured and icy.
