SC 08.03 Redistributed unstable windslab forming on W through N to NE aspects above 900m. Fragile cornices! Av. Hazard - Moderate.
Forecast Snow Stability: Redistribution of existing dry light deposits will occur with localised, unstable windslab forming in wind sheltered locations on mainly West through North to North-East aspects above 900 metres. Areas worse affected will be sharply defined features such as gully exits, steep burn lines and around steep corrie rims. Fragile cornices will form. The vast majority of the snow will be stable and well bonded. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: No precipitation. Strong South-South-Easterly winds throughout, increasing to severe gale force from late morning. Freezing level lowering overnight to around 300 metres, gradually rising to 700 metres by late afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A dry and sunny day. Fresh Southerly winds. Fluctuating air temperatures: Minus 1 degrees centigrade at 930 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Localised accumulations of shallow windslab are present on mainly East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Some light redistribution of deposits was occurring onto wind sheltered Northerly aspects. Bonding remains suspect but depth and distribution are not currently significant. There is good cover above 800 metres with more patchy snow below this altitude. The avalanche hazard is Low.
