Avalanche Activity

In particular in the southeast a lot of new snow to above 1300 m.

The new snow will become increasingly prone to triggering in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation more frequent medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind. In particular on very steep sunny slopes the avalanches can slide on the ground and reach medium size in some cases. As a consequence of the precipitation the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. Danger level 3 (considerable) will be reached towards the evening probably, but already in the afternoon above approximately 2300 m.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. This snow will be deposited on a crust below approximately 2600 m. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. The new snow will be deposited on a weakly bonded old snowpack on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2700 m. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers, mostly by large additional loads in isolated cases.

Tendency

Friday: Significant warming. The avalanche danger will not decrease for the time being.
