Avalanche Activity

Medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. In addition the wind slabs should be taken into account.

Older wind slabs remain in some cases prone to triggering on extremely steep shady slopes above approximately 2600 m, especially adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls in particular in high Alpine regions. They can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases. Avalanches can be triggered in the old snowpack and reach medium size in particular on steep shady slopes. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. The avalanche activity will gradually increase. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be started and concluded early.

Snowpack Structure

In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. The high temperatures as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
