Snowfall on Thursday was accompanied by strong westerly ridgetop which created dense wind slabs at the mid and upper elevations. Strong northwesterly winds on Friday continued to transport snow from windward to lee ward aspects. These slabs lie upon a variety of old snow surfaces, which include crusts, wind pack and faceted snow. Backcountry travelers venturing into steep, wind loaded terrain above 8,500 feet could trigger these slabs to depths of 6 to 18 inches.
