Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Warning is in effect for the West Elk Mountains, including the Anthracite Range, Ragged Range, and Ruby Range. Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist. One to two feet of snow combined with westerly winds is overloading the weak snow near the bottom of the snowpack. You can very easily trigger an avalanche on most slopes, you can trigger them from a distance, and you can expect to see some avalanches occur naturally. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended
