You can trigger an avalanche on wind-loaded terrain features and on warm, sunny slopes in the afternoon. To reduce your chances of triggering an avalanche avoid traveling on steep wind-drifted slopes such as the lee side of a ridgeline. As the day progresses and temperatures increase watch for rollerballs and wet surface snow on sunny slopes. If you notice either of these things consider moving to a shadier aspect to avoid being injured or worse in a small loose avalanche.
