Steep wind-drifted slopes facing north to east to southeast are the lingering places where you can trigger a dangerous slide. Look for smooth or rounded surfaces below ridges or overhanging cornices as prime places to find this problematic slab-over-weak layer combination. Sticking to lower-angle slopes or wind-sheltered areas can greatly reduce your chances of getting tangled up in an avalanche.
