Avalanche Summary

You can easily trigger an avalanche where you encounter thin slabs of wind-drifted snow above treeline. Most of these will be small, but in some areas they can grow large enough to bury you. You also might be able to trigger a larger avalanche that breaks on weak snow near the ground on shallow, rocky, north-facing slopes at upper elevations. You can find generally safe avalanche conditions on wind-sheltered slopes or move to lower elevations below treeline to drastically decrease your chances of triggering an avalanche.
