Snowfall and very strong westerly winds yesterday created easily triggered soft slabs at mid and upper elevations.
Yesterday's strong westerly winds moved new snow into easily triggered wind slabs on lee slopes at mid and upper elevations. Slabs to 14 inches in depth rest on slick sun crusts and wind packed snow and could be triggered on lee slopes today. In many areas the strong winds moved the new snow lower off peaks and crests creating pockets of slabs lower than normal on slopes and beneath cliff bands.
Light snowfall will end by midnight then a high pressure ridge will move into the area bringing dry conditions for Tuesday. Temperatures will warm to the mid 20s and winds will be westerly at 10 miles per hour. The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to be MODERATE at upper elevations in the Tetons and LOW in the Greys River and Togwotee Pass areas. Backcountry travellers will have the potential to release soft slabs to 10 inches in depth on steep lee slopes. Wet loose slides may become a hazard by afternoon on steep, sunlit slopes.
