Regions: Glacier.

Freezing levels should rise to 1700m today with treeline temperatures around -2. Crusts have formed on solar aspects with upside down conditions making travel difficult. The sun will be out today and radiation is intense even under thin clouds

Avalanche Problems

Loose Wet

Temperatures should climb rapidly this morning with lots of solar radiation from clear and broken skies. I expect loose releases around trees and rocks to pull the top 20-40cm of snow.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Storm Slabs

60 to 70 cm of recent storm snow has settled into a cohesive slab above a late March crust. Failures within the slab have been observed recently. Sudden planar results are still being observed on the crust.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Deep Persistent Slabs

The Feb 8 surface hoar is still worth keeping in mind. No recent failures have been observed on this layer. Cornice fall or glide crack failure are the most likely triggers.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 2 - 4
