Weather Forecast
Sunday night and Monday: The weakening front should reach the coast during the night and spread some very light precipitation on the Northern part of the region and gradually less to nil further South. Winds are expected to stay light for most of the period. Freezing levels should stay at valley bottom. Tuesday: The ridge of high pressure rebuilds to give place to mostly sunny skies and a light flow of winds. Freezing levels are expected to rise to 1000 m. in the afternoon. Wednesday: The South part of the region seems to be staying under the influence of the ridge of high pressure with no precipitation and light winds, however freezing levels could still reach 3100 m.
Avalanche Summary
Some sluffing (loose dry avalanches) was observed in the Duffy Lake area.
Snowpack Summary
Light amounts of new snow fell yesterday. The steep South facing aspects are getting moist in the afternoon with warm temperatures and sun effect creating some minor snowballing and most likely a surface crust when cooling. This new snow overlies a variety of wind affected snow producing sudden planar results in the Northern part of the region but not producing results in the Coquihalla area . As an overview, the snowpack is generally well-settled. Near the base of the snowpack, a crust/facet layer appears to be inactive but still produces the odd sudden shear in isolated areas. Although unlikely, triggering an avalanche on a basal may be possible from thin snowpack areas or with a very heavy trigger.
