Recent storms have gradually been depositing snow in the alpine but we're not into winter conditions yet. While it may look good from afar it is still far from good out there. If you do head out, expect to find LOTS of rocks, logs & trees.

Avalanche Summary

During clear breaks in the weather recent natural avalanche activity has been observed.

When assessing or choosing terrain consider the consequences of getting caught in an avalanche right now with so many rocks near the surface.

Snowpack Summary

Snow is starting to stick in the high-country. There is approximately 80-100cms of settled snow on the ground in the Alpine which tapers drastically to 10-20cms at 1300m. Recent winds have likely created pockets of windslab in Alpine and treeline lee features.

Expect to find hidden rocks and logs underneath the snow. Glaciers will have poor coverage with just enough snow to hide small crevasses.
