Summary

Weather Forecast

Thursday:  Moderate to Strong NE winds, and snow tapering off with the possibility of an additional 5-10cm and cold temperatures.

Friday: Clearing with continued cold temps, Light to Moderate NE winds

Saturday: Temperatures rising with a high of -5 in town, light westerly winds and no new snow.

Snowpack Summary

A strong upslope storm has so far deposited 50-70 cm of snow in the front ranges, which is forming new windslabs with moderate to strong northeast winds. This overlies a variety of bed surface including old wind slabs from strong southwest winds, bare ground and a thick melt freeze crust where snow from the late September snowfall did not melt out.

Avalanche Summary

Forecasters were not able to get out in the field today, but a widespread avalanche cycle is expected at all elevations.

Storm Slabs

An icon showing Storm Slabs

50-70cm of new snow has been transported by moderate to strong NE winds, creating slabs that will be very easy for a person to trigger. We are expecting to see a natural avalanche cycle at all elevations.

  • The new snow will require several days to settle and stabilize.
  • Keep an eye out for reverse loading created by an upslope storm.
