Winter continues! Overnight lows of -20C are forecast!!! Subtle loading with new snow is occurring in alpine terrain with up to 20cm recent snow above 2500m.

A Cold night is in store with overnight lows are -20C forecast! A few cms of new snow may also fall with light winds throughout the day on Wednesday.

Several loose dry slides up to sz 1.5 from steep unskiable terrain. 

Snowpack Summary

Recent snow is continuing to trickle in with 10-20cm (drainage dependant) of storm snow in the Alpine. The amount rapildy tapers below treeline though so dont expect much is the lower elevations. The snow is overlying a thick crust on all aspects expect north. isolated windslabs can be expected in the alpine on all aspects along ridgelines and immediate lee features.  

Terrain and Travel

  • Recent wind has varied in direction so watch for wind slabs on all aspects.
  • Watch for newly formed and reactive wind slabs as you transition into wind affected terrain.

Windslabs can be found in the alpine along ridgelines and in gullied terrain. Watch for these slabs overlying a crust on solar aspects.
