Central Cascades

Avalanches will be unlikely on Sunday. However, if you're venturing into remote or extreme terrain, evaluate the snowpack carefully. If you're unsure, back off to lower angle slopes.

We're in the middle of a warm, sunny, and mild weather pattern and with the easy-to-access slopes pretty well tracked up, more remote terrain beckons. We have not had reports of avalanche activity or snowpack instabilities in the past couple days, but remember that it's early season and our information is limited. Keep your snow science hat on, especially if you're stepping into bigger or more consequential terrain. 

I toured up Tumalo today and was surprised by how well the cold snow is holding on. Even though it was as tracked as I've ever seen it, the snow was soft and the skiing was fun. I dug a pit on the north side to look at the snowpack structure. I did not find any red flags, but keep in mind that this is just one data sample. It may not be representative of other parts of our zone.
