New snow between March 30 and April 1 was accompanied by 100+ MPH southwest winds. Wind direction has shifted to the east, creating complex redistribution patterns. With a full compass rose of wind slabs near and above treeline, use visual and tactile clues to avoid wind loaded slopes in steep and consequential terrain. Old snow surfaces are fast and firm, creating an efficient bed surface for wind slabs - and the potential for slippery travel and long falls where new snow has been scoured away by winds.
