Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will develop through the period with greatest accumulations on South-West through West to North aspects above 800 metres. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. The older, very patchy snowpack will remain well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force Easterly winds overnight ease and veer to become fresh to strong South-South-Easterlies through the day. Precipitation, heavy for a time overnight, will fall as snow above around 500 metres. Freezing level around 600 metres. Observed Weather Influences: After overnight snow above around 750 metres it was a mainly dry day. There were moderate South-Westerly winds and the freezing level was around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh snow on all aspects above around 750 metres this morning with isolated and shallow accumulations of windslab mainly on North to East aspects above 900 metres. The older, very patchy snowpack is well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
