Fresh snowdrifts are prone to triggering at high altitudes
Fresh snow and freshly generated snowdrift accumulations are prone to triggering. Exposed ridges and crests are often windblown and bare of snow. Esp. intermediate altitudes evidence surface hoar. One person can trigger small-to-medium avalanches in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt discontinuities in the terrain. In extremely steep and rocky terrain, small to medium sized glide-snow avalanches are possible due to solar radiation.
The latest batch of fresh snow was able to settle and consolidate at low altitudes. It often blankets trigger-sensitive snowdrift accumulations. Bonding of fresh snow and drifts to the old snowpack and with itself is often poor. At low altitudes the snowpack is shallow.
Nocturnal hours: light snow showers will swifting come to an end, skies clear up, often cold: -8 to -3 degrees, colder in high valleys. Tuesday: as a result of a high-pressure front, mostly sunny, with possible residual fog soon dispersing. Cirrus clouds later on, harmless. Low temperatures: -8 to -3 degrees, cold in high valleys. Highest: -1 to +3 degree.
High-pressure front conditions in the next few days, generally sunny, wintery temperatures. Avalanche danger will decrease incrementally.
