Avalanche Summary

You can trigger avalanches in places with more than about 12 inches of recent storm snow. Avalanches can break directly under the storm snow and step down to more deeply buried weak layers as they run down the slope. Avoid steep northerly and east-facing slopes, especially steep open slopes directly below ridgetop. Be wary of any steep slope where you observe shooting cracks or hear sounds of the snowpack collapsing.
