Previously wind-loaded slopes are the most dangerous. These slopes face an easterly to south direction and are most likely found directly below ridgetop. Avalanches in drifted snow are stepping down to crusts and weaker snow layers that were buried in mid-March. These avalanches can be large, wide, and hard to escape. To reduce your risk of avalanches, avoid slopes with thicker drifts of snow and stick to more sheltered terrain.
